Palo Dura Canyon

Today we planned on going to Palo Dura Canyon after hearing that it is second only to the Grand Canyon. 

I am not going to tell fairy tells...I had mixed feelings about what to expect, after reading reviews. Not to mention the drive to the canyon consisted of completely flat prairie land then...out of nowhere the ground drops and the canyon is massive. 

We arrived at 08:30 am and started with the most popular trail, the lighthouse. It's understandable why this is so popular...it is spectacular and we had a great time getting to the end.

It took us about 2.5 hours to finish, we were in no hurry...taking in the scenery.

The other trail we completed was to CCC trail. Listed as the most difficult. It is 1.5 miles each direction. I loved this trail, it was nothing like what I was expecting. I thought it would be a fairly straight shot up to the top, but this trail winds around and up and down giving way to spectacular views of the canyon.

The CCC took us about 1.5 hours...again we took out time enjoying the solitude.
