Military Housing - MacDill AFB, part 1

We lived on Base housing at Mayport Naval Station for 4 years.  In an outdated (probably) from the 50's, style house.  It was small (approx 1000 sq feet) but perfect for us when we arrived.  House prices were high when we checked in and we appreciated the no wait to move in.  We experienced minimal problams living there.

Having moved into our house here at Macdill in May...I have found that I will not make this mistake again!  What have we done...

The floor plan SUCKS (our 1700 square feet feels smaller than our home in JAX), the Carpet is gross, and the house was covered in dog hair when we moved in :(  The floors are tiled with some crap that is supposed to be used in cheap offices, you know the stuff that was used in your old elementary school cafeteria.  All this aside, we decided to make the most of it.

Then, we noticed some mold on our laundry ceiling under the light fixture, and some water damage from what we thought was a roof leak between our kitchen and living room.  So at this point we thought we should ask them to repair the bathroom floor while they are here.  We called housing, set up an appt 2 days later at 0930.  The guy showed up at 1430 left a note that he was here and we were not (of course because I had crap to do and I had sat around all morning waiting for him) only for them to not try again the next day...so we call again for another "appointment" and they of course, show only an hour late this time.  The "maint guy" looks around and says "this is happening in all these houses because of the metal they used in the duct work" (really, they moved us in here KNOWING this was a problem :(  That the AC guys will have to check it out...and that the floor and subfloor needed to be replaced...This guys asked if we laid the bathroom floor ourselves...really...really, I don't know what he was thinking, because that was the most disgusting floor that I have ever seen, and there is NO WAY that I would have done that!

Needless to say, another appt is made and the AC guys  come in and tell us what needs to be done (I really don't care, just do it and get rid of the mold...HELLO, we have MOLD"   Housing schedules us to move into Temp Lodging for 3 days so that the work can be completed.  2 weeks later!!!

We move into TLF (Temp Lodging) and settle into the cramped space, but think of this as an adventure, atleast we have a kitchen and washer/dryer in our room.  We go to our house 2 times daily to attend to our pets (left at the house, becuase you can't take pets to TLF)  Only to realize that work didn't start on our house until, the Thursday before we are to check out. (yes, I know, this can't be good and it isn't)

Housing makes an attempt to book us another night in the Lodge...No rooms are available so we are told we must check out.

Friday, we check out of TLF at 1100, the latest possible moment, and head home to put our perishables away.
This is what we come home to as we pull into our driveway.
There was insulation flying everywhere.  Tools, ladders, and men working.  I was told this was livable!
Now here I have posted a photo of our Children, do you think that it is ok for them to live in these conditions?  Not only that...we also have a foster child with us....making 5 children.  Do you think it's possible to SAFELY take care of a 9 month old in this house....There is no way!  They told us we could live there and they would work around us....4 days....N air conditioning (remember, we are in Tampa) and not heat.  Just holes in the ceiling and insulation everywhere.

Before I forget, one of the workers decided to go #2 in our upstairs bathroom and CLOG IT :(  You would think common curtesy would have been for them to report it and have it fixed before we showed up....That is just GROSS!

We ended up taking our happy little family to a hotel.  Yes, with 5 kids we stayed in one room, which is all we can afford right now.  On Tues, 6 days after this started we came home to this.

They were still working......but we had nowhere to go at this point.
